We have all been there before; those days that never seem to end, or moments we believe nothing is going right. Whether you received a bad grade on an exam or had an argument with your best friend, the point of the matter is you have accused yourself of being a “mess” at some point in your life.
A mess is defined as cluster, chaos, disorder, but it is NOT you. While you might believe your life is falling apart others around you believe you have everything under control. Stop apologizing for being human; no you are not a mess. What you fail to realize is how strong the power of words are, and labeling yourself will only make you believe you are what you think is true. The most important thing to do is to stop comparing yourself, and know that everyone at the end of the day is only human.
Do not scroll down your news feed wishing your life was as organized as what others make it seem, it’s social media, not real life. Do not make yourself feel guilty for not having picture perfect smoothie bowls for breakfast every morning or making that 7AM yoga session before class. Stop comparing yourself to other people simply because they are at a different stage in life, can lift a few pounds more at the gym, or got a higher grade on an exam. While you are busy comparing yourself to someone else there is someone that is looking at you and doing the exact same. These are not reasons to believe you are a mess. You are learning and living in order to gain experience for the future years to come.
As a young adult it isn’t always easy, and comparing yourself to others can happen more than once without realizing it. Next time you are about to apologize to someone for being a mess, don’t. We fail to realize that life has ups and downs, and everyone faces their own individual challenges that they either make aware or bottle in. There is no reason to believe you are a mess simply because you have not reached the level they are at yet, or because you keep forgetting where you put your keys down every other morning.
Before the gut feeling starts to hit again, realize everyone is on their own individual journey at their own pace. In the end, we always end up exactly where we are supposed to be. Therefore you should eat that bagel in the morning without feeling upset, and find a time to workout that fits your schedule instead of following the crowd. Stop believing your life is a mess simply because the person next to you seems to have it together all the time. The reality is we are all just as confused as one another, but the beauty of life is that it does not have to be perfect in order to be perfect.
