There is so much pressure today in the world we live in. The pressure to be thin, but not too thin. To be educated, but to make sure you don't make people uncomfortable with how much you know. Have a boyfriend, but wait, you don't need a man, you need to be independent. Be laid-back, but have standards, and make sure they are super high. Be the perfect sister, the perfect athlete, the perfect student, the perfect girlfriend, the perfect boyfriend. All of these lies are being fed to us by people who can't uphold the standards they set before us. Well, I have news for you: You are not called to be perfect. No one is.
I know, I know, I just blew your mind. You are called to be you. God didn't call you to be perfect! He called you to serve Him! You were created in the image of the God who hung the stars in the universe. The God who commands the wind, and the rain. We try so hard to go above and beyond who we are, and that's not a bad thing. Self-improvement is never a bad thing. But we stretch ourselves to the point where we don't even recognize who we are, trying to accomplish this version of perfection that we will never achieve. And that's okay. Especially being a young adult. Growing up is not about being perfect, it's actually about the opposite. Growing up, life, is about making mistakes and learning from them.
So take it easy on yourself. Don't try to be the perfect the girl, or the perfect boy. Try to be the best you. Do what makes you happy. Don't be afraid to make mistakes, and live your life.
