The song titled, “Good Old Days” by Macklemore ft. Kesha has me feeling a certain way this past week. The moments we are living in now have us creating memories that we are going to remember in years from now. Today, when you decide to watch the bachelor with your suitemates, you might be looking back on your wedding day, realizing that was the moment you met your best friends.
Even at this point of my life, I look back and want to rewind time to when I was first starting college and was able to spend most of my time getting to know people and going on late night adventures, dragging a boob box across campus to a local taco shop.
Also, listening to our friend Bobby standing on a chair in our room singing "Down On My Knees" by Ayo. I miss all the late night study sessions we did in our study room as well as all the late night snacking on Colby Jack cheese.
I think about summer days spent with my grandparents and playing in the sprinkler of their concrete backyard. Or begging my Pop Pop to walk my cousin and me to the park just so we can enclose our tiny hands in the palm of his.
I miss the feeling of always feeling protected and at ease. I miss being covered in sidewalk chalk and my biggest worry is which story my grandma was going to tell when she tucked us into bed.
I miss nights spent on our dorm room floor laughing about accidentally crashing dad's weekend thinking they were having a pool party. I miss my friends’ cuddles and acting silly- impersonating the Grinch.
After listening to a specific song for a period of time, we catch onto the lyrics are able to relate it to something specific in our lives. I for sure relate this Macklemore song to my favorite memories that I have experienced up to this point.
Every week, I have a song of the week and this week I am in a more grateful and reflective mood after listening to this song. Those really were the good old days, but in years from now, I am going to recall these college days as being just as good.
We will listen to throwbacks and even the Moana soundtrack, especially the song “You’re Welcome” on repeat. We recall where we were and who we were with the first time that we heard it. I will think of the night we danced and laughed all night while saying all of the wrong lyrics.
With each and every day that comes, keep relating to music, people, and enjoy this life. I do miss these good old times and I am excited to make more memories with the people I care the most about.
