Five Things You Need To Do In New York City This Holiday Season

Living in northern New Jersey all of my life has given me the privilege of accessing the heart of New York City in under an hour. I have to take two trains, while others have to fly or drive long distances. For those that have to do that, I’m truly sorry. I also have to say that the most special time to be in New York City is Christmas time. The city is in a way you won't see at any other time of the year. Christmas time in the city is something you cant experience anywhere else… The beautiful lights on every street corner, the sounds of bells, the aromas of Christmas radiating through the air - it’s something you can't miss out on. Whether you’re a NYC regular like myself or you’re a newbie, I have five amazing things that you simply must do while being there.

1. Going to see the tree at Rockefeller Center

There’s nothing better than going to see the enormous and wonderfully lit tree. In my opinion, it’s the center of attention and the most important thing to do while in the city. This is a really popular spot for proposals, so if you stay on the lookout, you might witness one for yourself.

2. Ice Skating

The reason I said just ice-skating is because there are two well-known places to go and skate: Bryant Park and the Rink at Rockefeller center. I’ve never been to Bryant Park, but I know it is significantly cheaper than the Rink. Bryant Park's prices range between $15-18 a person, whereas Rockefeller is around $40 a person. Prices also sky rocket once November comes around, and only continues to escalade in price as time goes on. Skating at the Rink is seriously like nothing else… It’s an experience. You have the tree right in front of you, you can watch the people in the restaurant on the same level, and you can be in a spot that was used in a ton of classic films.

3. Warm up (or cool down) at Serendipity 3

Serendipity 3 is known for it’s unique atmosphere, inviting smells, and frozen hot chocolates. Yup, you heard me right, frozen.hot.chocolate. I should mention that Serendipity 3 has a full size menu packed with tons of delicious lunch and dinner options. Its frozen hot chocolate, though, is something you have to experience while in the City… It’s kind of like of those mandatory rules that aren’t written down.

4. FAO Schwarz

I know, I know, you’re probably wondering why I have a toy store listed here. I am fully convinced that there is an inner child in everyone, and what better way to bring that inner child out than roaming around a huge toy store. It has everything from action figures to dolls to my personal favorite - the giant (and super fluffy) stuffed animals! Being in FAO Schwarz really allows its customers to relive their childhoods!

5. Fifth Avenue Window Shopping

Ever since I can remember, my best friend and our moms would go into the City in mid-December to go see the tree at Rockefeller center, walk down Fifth Avenue, grab dinner at our favorite restaurant, Carmines, and see an off Broadway show. Walking down Fifth Avenue during Christmas time is one of the most magical things you can experience. Every building has specially animated decorations and lights, and the windows are filled with Christmas inspired scenes and amazing winter themed fashion statements.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
