Writer’s block is an awful thing. I know my fellow writers can attest to this. If a writer ever says “I love having writer's block!” then I'd look at them and say "yeah right." No one has ever said that. Writer’s block is the worst. It’s like you really want to write something but your brain just can’t form the words. You end up staring at a blank word document for who knows how long, hoping and praying that you can begin to write something, anything! But it doesn’t happen.
It’s like that episode of "Spongebob" when he had to write this essay. The episode is really about procrastination, but it can be used as an example for writer's block. Spongebob thinks that he has it all figured out. He’s furiously scribbling down on his paper, thinking that what he wrote is a masterpiece. That is until he realizes that all he wrote was the word “The." All of that work only for him to end up with the word “The.”
That is one example of writer’s block. Thinking you have an idea so you start to write about it, but the idea is actually really bad, and you can’t even write a paragraph about it. And it’s not like you’re not trying because you are, you really are. You try and you try, but nothing happens. So what happens to Spongebob in this scenario? Well...his pineapple catches on fire and asks him, "Spongebob why? Why didn’t you just write your essay, Spongebob?” That poor pineapple on fire, all because Spongebob couldn't write his essay. Was it due to procrastination, or writer's block? Probably both.
I wish I was able to end this on a positive note. Give some tips about how to get out of having writer's block, but I can't. Sometimes it helps to leave what you're working on and come back later with a fresh mind, but that doesn't always work. And what if you're working on a deadline? Then if you're like me, you contemplate just throwing your laptop out the window — as if that's going to help anything.
All I can say is happy writing. And may the odds of not having writer's block be ever in your favor.
