I understand, college is tough. Class almost every single day, homework to do and long hours. College is a time where you devote one hundred percent of yourself to you, yourself, and your work. But what if you had a job. What if you had two?
From the opinion of someone who has two jobs and has class every day, I can say that it's difficult. It's definitely something that tries every inch of your patience and it makes you wonder why you do anything at all. I will also say that it is wonderful practice of how much you can handle on your plate and still remain a responsible, functioning, and successful adult. In that way, it's incredibly rewarding when you get to look back and see that you're doing well while doing three times the amount of work everyone else is doing around you.
The downfall is, you have less free time. This may be obvious to some, but it's not really obvious until you try to sit down for a minute or two and realize that you have to be somewhere in an hour and you need to get ready for it, whether it be class or work. I am confident, however, that when I get out into the "real world", I'll have a realistic point of view of how complicated reality can be and I may have a better idea than others on how to overcome every day issues. In that way, I'm grateful for how much responsibility I have.
I also look at work as a way to relax, but that's dependent on the type of jobs you have. At one job I am a receptionist and Maryland Institute College of Art and the other I am a host at a restaurant. Both jobs have a great atmosphere and great people work there. In that way, it's nice to see the same people every week that you can bond with over something similar (your job) and have some laughs. It's, in a way, an automatic sort of social life, when you may not have time for an "actual" one.
College is tough and work is tough. It's very tough to do together, for sure. Please realize that not everyone has it easy enough to not work during their college years. Not that we spite the people who don't have to work, but we do wonder how you still manage to complain about your incomplete work when our work is done within such a limited amount of time. Granted, everyone works differently, but time to work is such as that. Time to work. Maybe the people who work jobs during college have better time management because they have to. As opposed to people who don't have to work, who may not know what to do with all of their time.
