It really shouldn't be a surprise that your name is lighting up my phone again. I mean, we've been here before. We've been here a few times, actually. Every time, I forgive you. I make myself feel tiny so that you can feel bigger. Only, I won't anymore. I can't. I won't. I deserve to shine, and you don't see that.
In "Private Practice," Charlotte King was goals when she said: "I am too much woman for you. I have more money. I picked a specialty that makes you nervous. I bought your way into the practice. I'm strong and I'm comfortable with being strong and I like that I'm strong. And if that is too much woman for you; if that makes your junk feel tiny... I'm not gonna make myself smaller. I'm not gonna put myself in a box so that you feel like a big man. I am a big woman and you either get used to it or get out." Preach, Charlotte, Preach.
I forgive people too easily. I trust people who don't earn it. Sometimes, it's the best thing. Other times, it can be my greatest fault.
In "Gossip Girl," Serena says to Blair: "I'm just tired of trying to hold myself back so I don't outshine you."
In Serena's case, this statement might not have been completely fair. However, it is good advice. It doesn't matter who is making you (or me) feel small. It doesn't matter if it is your boyfriend, like in Charlotte's case; or your best friend, like in Serena's case. You have to stand up for yourself and tell them how you feel.
However, if you are making yourself small to make someone else big, know that you are not alone. Even Meredith Grey needed her BFF Christina Yang to remind her that she shines. Christina says about McDreamy: "Don't let what he wants eclipse what you need. He is very dreamy, but he is not the sun. You are." Find yourself a BFF like Christina who will build you up when you forget your worth.
You can also take to listening to Daya's song, "Sit Still, Look Pretty" and remind yourself that you're a queen who doesn't need a king (or the other way around). You don't need someone who only wants a picket fence and a trophy wife. Remind yourself that "this gal right here's gonna rule the world."
We don't have to dull our sparkles for anyone. We shouldn't have to dull our sparkles for anyone, and I'm done dulling my sparkle for anyone.
I am going to change the world one day, and those who can't deal with that can just sit back and watch me carpe every freaking diem.
