Beauty has become a standard measurement of worth in our society. Women are expected to put on a pretty face every day of their lives. Every act is judged and scored by the rest of the world on a standard of the "perfect woman" each man wants and each woman wants to be. Often women are expected to be a perfect wife, perfect mother, perfect cook, perfect counselor, perfect everything. Women are expected to look their best on the outside and have everything together on the inside as well.
There's nothing wrong with feeling good in your own skin or having confidence about your looks. There's nothing wrong with having it all together. But to all my Christian ladies out there, I want to remind you of how much more you have to offer. I also want to remind you that you don't have to strive to be perfect by earthly standards because you are already perfect in the eyes of God.
You are beautiful inside and out. But you are not just a pretty face. You are not just an accessory. Your body was purposefully crafted by God and every freckle, every curve, every stretch mark, every inch was carefully thought out to make you God's most wonderful creation.
You are a daughter of Christ. You have been cleansed of sin and imperfection ever since your baptism. Christ took your place and died so that you could be forgiven of every sin you commit. You are pure, holy, and a temple of the Lord.
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." -Romans 12:1-2
The Holy Spirit chose you. You are blessed with faith, the ultimate connection to your heavenly Father. He is consistently using you as a beacon of light in a world of darkness. Your words and actions hold tremendous power--you're a public figure of the Word and are constantly being watched and looked up to by those around you.
Forget all the photo-shopped models or the scripted actresses on TV, they shouldn't be your role models...Christ should be. Every day you should strive to be a better woman than you were yesterday. Seek to exemplify all the godly qualities a woman of Christ should have. Be selfless, kind, compassionate, slow to anger, loving, and forgiving. Your worth does not come from outward appearances alone. A faithful heart fosters a positive mind and righteous actions in the name of the Lord.
We each have different gifts and are commanded by the Lord to do everything in His name, to the best of our abilities. We should rejoice and beam with excitement to live our lives for the one who blessed us with the very gift of life.
We may not be perfect by society's standards, but we as godly women can have the comfort of knowing our true worth. We are absolutely priceless in God's eyes, and that should be all the reassurance we need.
As godly women, we should work to embody every perfect example Christ has set for us, even if we cannot be perfect by ourselves. Keeping God at the focus of our life will carry us through any trials and tribulations of this world.
"Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ." -Ephesians 4:14-15
If you want to crack open your Bible and brush up on some of His divine words, 2 Peter chapter 1 is a wonderful reminder from God about how we should conduct ourselves on earth in his presence.
