A Woman Has No 'Place'

Other than 'wherever she chooses to be.'

Recently there has been a lot of talk about gender roles and how men and women should exist in society. Frankly, I see this as a nonissue. How about we all just mind our own business and let everyone live how they want to? Everyone, man or woman, is entitled to have a demanding career or stay home and care for their children. Believe it or not, different dynamics work for different families.

I was raised by a stay at home mom and her lack of a job was actually a full-time job, plus overtime. I and my two siblings were more than enough to handle. However, I plan to have a solid career some day. For some reason, I cannot understand why either of those options would be deemed "unacceptable" or "inappropriate."

As a society, we are oftentimes too concerned with each other. Constantly looking at what others have or what others do and comparing ourselves. Instead of focusing our energy externally. focus your energy internally. Work to better yourself or to find your "place," no matter where it may be. Don't judge the mom who works 50 hour weeks or the dad who stays at home to care for his children. This idea may be too "modern" for some but the society across the globe is changing and molding every day. Instead of trying to understand others, simply let them be. What is going on in others' homes is no one's business except for those living there.

Believe it or not, you can raise kids and have a passion. Somewhere along the line, this important message seems to have gotten lost or blurry, but it's true. There are more than enough living examples of this testament. As corny as it sounds, you have the right to do what you please and chase your dreams, regardless of your gender.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
