Withdrawals Are Coming

Steps to get through your Game of Thrones withdrawal symptoms.

As we all know, Game of Thrones Season 6 has come to a close. We knew these empty days were coming, but what does that mean for us junkies? Withdrawals. After all, we have to wait a full year before the world of Westeros is back in our lives. An entire year without dragons, incest, main character deaths, magic, or shouting obscenities at our televisions can lead to some serious withdrawal symptoms. If you find yourself itching for another episode, but can't get your fix, just remember that you're not alone. You have an entire GOT support group to help you through this trying time. Sometimes an intervention will be necessary, and in these extreme cases I recommend starting back at Season 1 and working your way through season to season (but skip the Red Wedding for the love of God.) If that doesn't satiate your hunger, try out these following steps:

Step 1:

If you haven't already (you're not a true fan but whatever,) read the books! The books always have much more detail that the show leaves out. If you find yourself unable to commit to such a task, especially if you're afraid of potential spoilers, try reading A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel. It's essentially a hard-bound comic book based on a portion of the first novel.

Step 2:

It might be mid-summer, but you know nothin' if you've never shopped for your winter coat at this time. They all will be on sale and no one else will be bothering you in the winter section. You'll be on a mission to find a black coat that is about 15 sizes too big for you, preferably with fur adorning it. Winter is coming, and you've got some watching to do, so it's best to prepare now.

Step 3:

*Sleep with your sibling. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be a character from GOT it can easily be done. If you want the full experience, do it in a tower. Don't forget to push a kid out the window, though.

Step 4:

*Kill your father while he's on the toilet. This is another option for those wanting to know what it would be like to be a GOT character. Why cosplay when you can really get a feel for it, right? P.S. you'll need a crossbow for this one.

Step 5:

Follow a drinking game as you watch through any of the episodes. Making your own game is another option, but I personally recommend this one. I found it last year, and it's magic. It won't 100% work for future seasons, but it's fun nonetheless.

Remember, a year of waiting doesn't have to be Seven Hells. There won't be any milk of the poppy to get us through the pain, but we've got each other to lean on. I hope you enjoyed this past season as much as I did. Good luck this year; I believe in you!

*This is obviously a joke. Don't do it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
