A little girl short in stature who always dreamed big; every night she looked up at the sky to see the stars that glisten in the night. She said to her friend, “Oh how I would love to be a star and fly through the sky.” But her friend said, “You can't. You cannot fly like a bird so you can not be a star.” The sad little girl went home to her mother and told her about what her friend had said. The mother looks at her little girl, eyes filled with tears, she then picked her up, sat her on her lap and said, “It is true you cannot be a bird because you are my little girl, but that does not mean you can not become a star that shines brighter than any other in the night. Do not let the words of one person to stop you from your dream, because if it is you, then you can do anything.”

The little girl smiled at her mother, a sparkle in her eye, “If I can not be a bird then I will have find another way to fly.” Her mother smiled back and said, “But if you become a star, I would be sad because you are no longer with me.” The little girl giggled and replied, “No, that is not true. If I am a star then I will always be with you. No matter where you are or where I am, I will always be shining as bright as I can.” Her mother was shocked at how mature her little girl was. She smiled and hugged her child as tight as she could and said, “Then in that case, my little star, run off to bed and sleep well tonight; so that you can shine as bright as sunlight.”

Days turned into months and months into years but the little girl never forgot of the dream she held so dear; nor the words her mother once said which encourage her through all her adventures. The little girl grew up and became a woman in the blink of an eye. She started her own family and had a little girl whom she loved with all her heart. One day her little girl said, “Mommy, I want to be a mermaid that swims in the sea but my friend said I can't because I cannot breath underwater.” The woman looked at her little girl with a smile on her face because she knew exactly what to say. “Do not let the words of one person to stop you from your dream, because if it is you, then you can do anything.”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
