If anyone watches Steph Curry play, they know he is the best shooter to ever play the game. On February 27 Curry shocked the world by pouring in 46 points in which 36 of his 46 came from three-point range (12-16). That kind of performance is a prime example of why Curry is the face of the NBA. There hasn’t been a night where Curry has had a bad game, but he will be the first to credit his team with the way his career is panning out.
Steve Kerr has done a great job of maintaining the team that was built by Mark Jackson before getting fired due to consecutive play-off eliminations. Every player on that roster complements Curry’s style of play. Draymond Green who was the 35th pick in the second round of the 2012 draft and was labeled as a raw prospect who would probably get shipped off to the D-league. Four years later, Green is the backbone of an athletic Warriors team who is looking to break the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls record of 72-10. A record that is realistically capable of being broken as the Warriors sit at an impressive 53-5 record. Klay Thompson who is Curry’s side kick on the court is lights out from three-point range. The 6’7 guard from Washington State poses as one of the ‘Splash Brothers’ and is indeed the second highest scorer on the team. The Warrior’s bench is filled with productive players like Andre Iguodala, Leandro Barbosa, and Harrison Barnes who can accept their role on the team and when their name is called they will produce.
If teams want to win a championship it’s all about sacrifice. It sets back franchises like Cleveland and Miami because egos get in the way of winning games. The Warriors maintain composure and look out for one another for the greater good of the team. Yeah Curry is the face of the franchise and the league, but if he wasn’t averaging over 30 points per game, then their record wouldn’t be 53-5. They spread the floor and according to Steve Kerr their starting five is different every night. Coaches who notice kinks in the offense and defense make changes every night and adjust to various matchups down the stretch. Some might argue that the Warrior’s offense is Curry’s playground, but he utilizes the many pieces he has around him to complete the puzzle. Will the Warriors win the NBA Championship this season? I’m not going to make any assumptions, but don’t be surprised when the Warriors make another finals appearance come June.
