It seems like the Warriors' unbelievable season this year has been undermined by March Madness this past month, as well as Opening Day of the MLB. The Warriors are 68-8 and just five wins away from topping the '95-'96 Chicago Bulls 72-10 record. Unfortunately for Golden State, there is little room for error with only six games left in the season. Will they top the Bulls' record? Let's look at their schedule.
Tuesday, April 5, vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
Thursday, April 7, vs. San Antonio Spurs
Saturday, April 9, @ Memphis Grizzlies
Sunday, April 10, @ San Antonio Spurs
Wednesday, April 13, vs. Memphis Grizzlies
One thing to consider is the scheduling. I think the Warriors will definitely lose to the Spurs not only because the game is in San Antonio, a place where the Spurs are undefeated this season, but also because they'll be right off a game in Memphis.
The problem is Tony Parker, a Point Guard for the San Antonio Spurs, said that he doesn't think "anyone," meaning any of the starters, will play in those two games since the Warriors are too far ahead to catch, and the Spurs are locked in at the No. 2 seed. That'd be frustrating (coming from a Bulls fan perspective) because the Warriors would have a 73-9 or 74-8 record partially because teams rested their players at the end of the season. There will always be that little asterisk in the minds of Bulls fans and former players because of that.
My prediction is that if the Warriors can beat the Timberwolves and Spurs at home, they'll go 73-9 and hold the best NBA record of all time.
Whether or not they do better than 72-10, we definitely can't say we haven't been entertained by one of the greatest shooters ever.
