Kevin Durant, one of the Warrior's top players was announced injured with a left leg injury on March first. This is ironic considering the Warriors blew a three to one lead in the finals, but that is a different story. Zaza Pachulia, one of Durant's teammates, fell on Durant's left leg when an opposing player, Marcin Gortat, pushed Pachulia to the floor. As Durant has been averaging above 20 points a game, and so far until the injury had seemed like the Warriors best player even with superstars like Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
For the first time since April 2015, the seemingly unstoppable Warriors have lost back- to- back games. Even without Kevin Durant this was not expected of the Golden State Warriors. From what has been happening in the last two games, we are seeing that Kevin Durant's absence is having a negative impact on the Warriors. Steph Curry, reigning back to back MVP, is ice cold from the court. He is missing three- pointers that he makes on a regular basis, and the whole chemistry of the Warriors is out of sorts.
It is expected that Kevin Durant will be back in time for the playoffs, but there is still a chance that he might be out for the playoffs. The Warriors have already clinched a playoff berth so regardless of what happens in the rest of the season, the Warriors will be in the playoffs, but the issue is that to win or even get back to the finals, the Warriors will have to regain their momentum that they had with Kevin Durant on the court and disregard the cold games they have been having recently. This injury could cause the rest of the Warriors team to work harder and become a closer unit. If the Warriors do become a closer unit and work hard to get their wins, then when Kevin Durant does eventually come back the Warriors will be able to win every game much easier and a third straight Finals appearance or even their second Finals victory in three years may be in order.
In all, the injury of Kevin Durant might have a negative impact on the Warriors in the current state, but in the long run it may have positive effects on the Warriors.
