When first joining a sorority there is always major excitement with meeting so many new people, learning the history of a remarkable organization, and of course getting all the gifts and shirts. Now all that stuff is great, but nothing tops getting your Big (and you get more presents then so it’s like double awesome).
But in all seriousness, getting a Big is simply amazing. She’s more than someone to just hang out with at chapter events, she’s someone to help you grow and learn all that is offered in your chapter, Greek life, your school, and the world. Everyone has their own story of how they came to be Big and Little but no matter the tale, we all know that we love and appreciate our Bigs. And especially all they do for us, since it is quite simply more than what can be put into words, but I've certainly tried to sum it all.
She Shows You The Ropes
This is the true task a Big usually has to accomplish: teaching you the ins and outs of the sorority. Who else would answer all my random questions? Or introduce me to all the older girls in the chapter? I feel like I would have been too confused to actually stay involved with Greek life if my Big wasn’t there to teach me everything I needed to know.
Always Spoils You
The best part of Big Little Reveal, after getting your Big of course, is getting spoiled with all the gifts. It truly is an awesome day. But most Bigs won’t just stop there and will continue to treat their Littles. It’s not always necessarily big gifts either, it’s the little things like getting texts that say, “I’m coming up to school, do you want food?” and then Big shows up with burgers. Or when you just get bored so decided to craft and who better to give it to than your Little?
Is Great at Being Mom
Your Big has probably seen it all with being in the sorority longer than you, and she knows the drill of taking care of people on a Thursday night or whenever. So she watches out for you and makes sure you always get home safe. Even if that entails walking you home while you shout in front of the police car. But beyond that she’s there to come do your hair and help you pick out outfits and just be.
She’s Honest With You in the Best Way
She knows when you’re about to make a stupid decision or tells you when you did. She’ll be straight up with you when no one else will because she knows you need it. And in the end she’s usually right.
Unconditional Love
This is the best part of having a Big. She loves you know matter what. No matter how many times you do something stupid or make a mess or something, she'll always be there for you.
