Distance. A word that can kill a great relationship so quickly. In all reality, it really doesn't have to. Thinking back to junior and senior year of high school my classmates began having "the talk" with their significant others about if they would try to stay together after high school and more often than not the deciding factor was because of the nasty word we all try to avoid, a long distance relationship. Here's the thing, you shouldn't give up on a relationship based on distance — at least before you try it out.
Reason #1: It won't make you any happier.
You probably think that you're saving yourself a heartbreak if you just end things now, right? Unfortunately, if you really care about the person you're going to be heartbroken no matter what, so, you both deserve to try out the long distance thing and see if it could work. In the end, I bet you will be happy you did.
Reason #2: It makes spending time together even better — cheesy I know.
Honestly, it does. You think getting to spend time with your boyfriend/girlfriend is good now, just wait until you don't get to see them for weeks or months at a time. It's like Christmas morning! (Well, close enough.)
Reason #3: You have a completely unbiased opinion at all times.
If you're dating someone who's around all the time it's hard to truly get an honest opinion, but when they have no idea who Sally from the 5th floor is they can totally give you great advice.
Reason #4: Don't want to wear pants? No problem!
Ok so this one is kind of a joke, but seriously. Skype dates don't require pants. Throw on a cute top and you're good to go!
Reason #5: Like giving gifts? Like getting gifts? If you answered yes to one or both of these a long distance relationship is the one for you!
Care packages are so fun. Sending these to your boyfriend/girlfriend are a great way to let them know you're missing them and of course they're fun to receive too.
Reason #6: It's a great get away.
This one is a little trickier. Depending on how far away your significant other is this can be the perfect get-away.
Reason #7: It's worth it.
Long distance relationships may not be fun and flirty like they're made out to be in the movies, but they are worth a shot. Don't let distance scare you away from what could be or what could continue to be a great relationship.
