We all know the basics by now. Exercise is great for you! It can help you live longer, become stronger, keep you healthy and feel better emotionally! However, going to the gym is not all that great for everyone. Sports teams are not only better than just going to the gym, but have more benefits than just your health!
If we are to compare the gym and sports teams, there are a million reasons to chose a sports team! One is that the gym can be boring, unless you love to be around other people's sweat that seeped into machines and people watching you. I guess that happens a bit with the sports team, but at least it is not as awkward as it can be at the gym!
This is due to the commonality you will have with you teammates. You see, after you sweat and have your body jiggle pleasantly in the gym, you might not want to go back. That is where self-determination comes in, or teammates. It might be awkward at first, but after you have sweat and have your bodies do strange jiggles together, you do not feel embarrassed! You forget how you feel awkward and are just proud you were able to keep up with your teammates and that your team did great together!
I know a lot of people who would love to go to the gym if they had someone go with them, but team sports already grantees someone to workout with! You might not be friends at first, but after you have worked together for a few months, you guys will have a bond few others have! You will suffer defeat and gain victories with these people, they will become a type of family and you would not have it any other way!
You might not understand it until you are on a sports team, but sportsmanship is a great thing to achieve. When you have the ability to trust people and play a game knowing how it is to have the other team cheat and to be given the benefit of the doubt, it changes your world view a bit. It is a bit strange and might sound cultish at times, but sports really prepares you for life and gives you a sense of honor you can take off the field.
There is also your ability to connect with people, even if you are on a swim team (where you perform solo), you connect with more than just team members! People who have played any sport, and specifically your sport, will have an instant connection with you, a conversation topic and the ability to do an activity if you wish! This will extend across countries and cultures – a sport is just a game you can play!
If you chose to join a sports team, know you are making a great decision. I would recommend this for everyone; there is always a sport you can play and enjoy for the rest of your life!
