To begin with, I completely understand why sometimes it may be hard to be yourself, or just easier to act a certain way because you think people will like you better. People every day are in situations where is just seems so hard to act how they would act if they were their best friends. People are going to new schools, meeting new people, joining clubs, or even just going to an event, and it can feel like if you act like you normally would, others might judge you. It's normal for people to want others to like them. Everyone wants to be viewed in different ways.
When it comes to wanting people to view you a certain way, I would first like to tell you that I think it is super important to be yourself. If your main goal is for people to like you, wouldn't you rather they like the real you? I also try really hard every day to forget about what people think of me. I want to be me and to act how I please. From personal experience, I know that can be really hard. You have thought of it in this sense, you are not supposed to be like someone else. We are all meant to be different and unique in our own ways. Of course, some of us has similar characteristics, such as talking loud, smiling a lot, or dancing terribly, but those things do not define you. When I think of people, I try to think of the positive things I know they are.
Take a moment and think, if you wanted to be described a certain, or people think of you a certain way, what would it be? Now, think does it actually sound like you? If not, try thinking about how you act when it's just you hanging out with your family. Most times I feel like we act our true selves in front of those we care about. I am my best self when I am around people I care about. I want to be thought of how I am with them.
I am not saying that if you are wanting people to not think of you as your true self that it is bad. If you want people to think of you in a different way, than that it fine. We all act slightly different in front of people. I just think it is truly amazing when you can be around people who fully understand you and who you really are. I like being myself around other people because they think I'm funny, or crazy, or call me sweet. When people say things like that about me, I am proud of being myself because I never think that's my true self, but I always act normal around those people, so that must be my true self. People are always paying attention whether you know it or not. However you decide to present yourself to the world, make sure it's how you want to be remembered.
