Hey, you. Yes, you over there. Average gym-goer. I bet I can guess what you're thinking right now as you make the trek to your gym.
"I'm gonna walk in, kinda act like I own the place, hit some chest, back, tri's, and most importantly: bi's. Then I'm out."
Yeah. Okay. You do that. You do that while that squat rack over in the corner collects dust all day and cries itself to sleep at night. You do that while the deadlift mat gets neglected and feels the need to eat ice cream while watching sad movies alone after hours. You do that while the leg press loses confidence in itself and wants to drop out of school and work a minimum wage job for the rest of its life. All of these things wonder why they receive no attention while all of the bench presses, dumbbells, and cable machines feel all of the love in your workout oasis.
Maybe it's because you think you're too good for leg day? Or because chicks don't dig strong, toned legs?
Whatever your reason may be, you're wrong. So. Very. Wrong.
You need leg day as much as it needs you. But why?
I consider leg day to be a necessary evil, something that you do not necessarily ever have the desire to do, but must be done. Leg day often makes you wonder why you're alive, or it even makes you question your life choices. It certainly seems like a very undesirable task to perform. However, average gym-goer, I implore you: do not skip leg day.
"But Alex, why would I ever need to do leg day?"
Legs perform many important roles in everyday life. Not skipping leg day will do you wonders. Examples include but are not limited to:
-Looking like you have a proportionate body: Nobody wants to try and make sense of a person with a huge torso and toothpick legs.
-Moving large objects, like furniture: Isn't it embarrassing when you have to call someone to move an object you could move yourself?
-Impressing women: Believe it or not, women who enjoy big upper bodies more than likely also appreciate nice thighs or toned glutes.
-Being athletic: How are you supposed to posterize your friends or leap to make a great catch in a pick-up game without them?
Leg day isn't a one-way street either --- it needs you too. Lifting legs will keep the dust off the squat rack and make it happy. Lifting legs will keep the deadlift mat from watching all those sad movies because it won't be lonely. Lifting legs will motivate that leg press machine to stay in school and succeed in life.
All it takes is one day.
And that, average gym-goer, is why you need leg day, and leg day needs you.
