1. Their complete existence is centered around attention.
Yes, they are rich and yes, they are famous. But the Kardashian fame doesn’t come from hard work or talent. The Kardashians are a business that stands on weak pillars and represents bad morals. They don’t have respect of other celebrities and successful people whom they may share the spotlight with. Barbara Walters said in reference to the Kardashians, “You don’t have any, forgive me, talent.” Jon Hamm told Elle Magazine, “Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a fu*king idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because it’s rewarded significantly.” Reese Witherspoon uttered at the MTV Movie Awards, “When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and hid under your bed.” These are not the people that the young girls and women of our generation should be looking up to. They are especially not the people whom we should aspire to be like.2. They lack confidence.
I am by no means saying that a lack of confidence is a reason to dislike Kim K. Or Kylie. On the other hand, I do believe that it is important to acknowledge that while their lives may be glamorous, this may come at an often overlooked expense. The Kardashian girls are constantly inserting themselves into the media every chance they get.
Whether it’s on Snapchat, Instagram or through the paparazzi, we see the Kardashian faces on a continual basis. They are always wearing a full face of makeup. Their hair color is changing every other week, and their nails are changed daily. The Kardashians are doing everything in their power to turn heads, which to me is a sad and unrewarding lifestyle. Although it may be tempting to believe these girls have it all, it’s important to remember that a lot of hard work goes into creating that persona.
3. They live in the spotlight.
I realize that fame and fortune are very desirable commodities in our culture. We are constantly watching celebrities, and enviously wondering what it would be like in their shoes. Though this is normal, I think it’s important to take a step back once in a while and realize that this lifestyle comes with its own battles. The Kardashian girls might have the best clothes, cars and vacations, but they are missing out on the “normal” things that we take for granted every day. Kylie will never experience a college formal or beer-ridden frat party. Kendall won’t ever go on a normal spring break with her girlfriends.
These might seem like small tradeoffs for their lavish lives, yet I have to believe that deep down, it gets to them. They’re completely incapable of having the normal experiences that we have, and there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it.
Not to mention, fame comes with unfaithful friends who just want some time in the spotlight. It also entails absolutely no privacy. And although the Kardashians have many fans who claim to adore these women whom they don't know, they also have many, many haters. No matter how strong-willed of a person you might be, no one likes to be talked about in a bad way.
