Being from the Jersey shore has its benefits. There are beautiful beaches, great restaurants and some of the best scenery on the planet. You are literally 15-20 minutes away from anything, including mountains and the beach. Shore people are their own breed, they kind of just do as they do, and I'm no different. I go to school in PA, so people think some of the things I do are just plain weird. The one thing I do that gets the most comments from people is the fact that I will wear flip flops in the dead of winter.
Why, you ask? Well, there are plenty of good and logical reasons for doing so. First and foremost, they are the comfiest things in the world to wear. I have the panned ones so they literally feel like you’re wearing nothing on your feet, which I like. Another big reason for me is that I am a texture guy. I need to feel texture to be able to function in this life. I feel like I can feel everything when I wear flip flops. People think that’s weird, but ask any shore person and they would probably say the same thing.
Another big thing I love about flip flops is the fact you can wear them in all weather. It does not have to be beautiful out to wear those puppies. Particularly I wear them when it is raining, because why would I ruin expensive sneakers? There is no point. I also really hate when it is raining and the water get into your sneakers and gets your socks wet. Then you’re sitting in class or at work and your feet are just soaked and then you get sick later that day. I am not about that. Even if the flip flops get wet, you can just take them off and not have to worry about getting pneumonia.
Another thing I really like is that they're so versatile. You can pretty much wear them with anything and be okay. I have a black pair and a white pair, so whatever life throws at me, I have a pair of flip flops for that. I really don’t see why people don’t wear flip flops in the dead of winter. It just makes sense to me. However there will always be someone with a problem, and to that, I just say, haters gonna hate.
