It’s that time again… swim suits, no school, tanning, ice cream and fun Summer nights- and good ole’ Summer Heat! I mean who doesn’t love to go outside and sweat all your makeup off or practically bathe just to have major B.O. five seconds later? I don’t know about most people but I, do not like Summer. Despite Olaf from "Frozen" talking about how we would love to live and experience Summer despite the heat that would practically... well you know...defrost him. Summer has it’s perks like the seasonal appearance of the sun lighting up the world, and tan skin and not to mention, half-dressed human beings walking around showing off their ‘summer bod’ after working off excess weight they put on during sweater weather Winter. A lot of fantasies and movie plots are placed in "those suuummmer niiiiiiiights." Thank you, Olivia Newton John and John Travolta. However, despite the attractiveness Summer brings, I just cannot stand Summer.
Winter is a beautiful part of the year. In my opinion, I could stay in Winter all year round. The trees are dead-yes, but look at all the positive things. Hot cocoa by the fire, and if not a fire- maybe cuddling up in blankets to gather warmth and feeling an instant sensation when the warmth is inviting on cold skin. Not to mention-the AC bill goes down! Instead of turning on the AC as high as it will go to avoid hot and humid weather, you can turn of the unit altogether and if it gets stuffy- cracking the windows ever so slightly. Not to mention all the fun pajama pants that are pulled from their place in the back of our drawers and are fluffy, soft, and comfortable. If you aren’t convinced yet; what about the Holidays in those cold months? Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Valentine’s Day, New Years, etc.
Have you ever thought about how life would be if we lived in Winter forever, like to Who’s in Whoville. We wouldn’t lose any big holidays; we wouldn’t have bad B.O or lose our makeup from our faces from sweat. Our AC bills would be non-existent, and even though we would be super pale - HOT TUBS AND HEATED POOLS (Maybe in the snowy mountains!) And don’t worry about the lack of ‘Romance’ affiliations. Just like Summer- Winter has the fantasies as well! I mean who doesn’t love the classic romance movies such as Serendipity, Groundhog’s day, The Holiday, and well-Elf.
Winter and Summer are on different ends of the spectrum. Spring and Fall however or transitional seasons that are fairly loved as well- however do not hold as much celebration and happiness in their months because they are often overlooked. My favorite month is December- and not because of the celebrations- but because it is the last month of the year. Before an entirely new year in January. What is more exciting that finishing off a year and being introduced to an entirely new one?
My heart will forever long for those cold winter nights and joyful warm memories that are so much appreciated and noticeable it the cold, versus the hot heat on my skin in Summer. If Winter was here to stay all the time; I’d probably be less emotional due to the weather remaining a constant range.
T-Swift said it best - I “Go back to December All the Time.”
