“Make America Great Again.”
False.
America will not be made great again by chanting it and making a clothing line about it. America will not be made great again by using classic bird puns to prove someone’s greater value. America will not be made great again by writing a spiteful post on Facebook. America will not be made great again by keeping your mouth shut.
America will be made great again when we begin to act like great people. America will be made great again when we begin to stand up for what is right. America will be made great again when we don’t blind ourselves with our opinions. America will be made great again when we are the change.
As Americans, we feel entitled to experience life in a certain way. We expect things to go our way. We expect our opinions to be law. We do not do, we just expect -- and nothing good has ever come out of waiting around.
If we truly want to “make America great again”, then we need to realize what the definition of greatness truly is.
Greatness does not mean discriminating against someone because of their religion or the color of their skin, or even because they may not know English as well as you do.
Greatness means putting others above yourself -- treating everyone with the same love and kindness you expect. It means practicing what you preach -- to start putting all that big talk of yours into action. It means setting aside your differences to make sure you, your children, and the rest of the world live without fear.
It means acting with the same magnitude we dream in.
We can no longer sit idly by. We need to take a stand.
This is no longer about who will be the next President of the United States, it’s about how we as people will represent it. The President is only as powerful as the people let them be -- so why are we handing them all the power?
We cannot sit here and continue to make excuses about why we didn’t stand up for injustice. We cannot sit here and look away while we destroy our fellow Americans because we’re scared of acceptance. We cannot sit here and pretend like electing a new President will change anything.
We need to start being the change we want to see in the world.
Start striving to be the person you think America needs. Start treating everyone with the respect you desire. Start showing the world why you’re proud to be an American.
America doesn’t need to be made “great again”. America has always been great. We’ve just been too selfish to show it.
