Nowadays it is impossible to open a magazine or access the Internet without seeing a Kardashian face plastered on the center of the page, staring back at you with one of their perfectly contoured faces. The American royal family has monopolized the entertainment industry and has produced numerous television series, games and apps, clothing stores, and clothing lines, among many other sources of income.
The iconic group’s fame originally derived from the late Kardashian patriarch, as he served as OJ Simpson’s attorney. Soon after, Kim’s sex tape leaked, and the rest is history. The Kardashians have thrived in the media despite many controversies and scandals surrounding the bunch. So why are we so obsessed with a family notorious for scandal?
1. They publicize and draw attention to real life circumstances and societal problems.
As their spotlight in the media has skyrocketed, so has the Kardashians' exposure to real life controversies, problems, and predicaments. In the last few years they have addressed situations regarding health and lifestyle with Rob, plastic surgery with Kylie, sex with Kim, sexuality with Bruce and Caitlyn, drugs with Lamar, alcoholism with Scott, and single parenting with Kourtney.
So many of these topics hit close to home with the average American, and seeing someone famous going through similar obstacles makes people feel like they are not alone.
2. They are stunning.
Whether it is due in part to their personal makeup artists or access to top of the line beauty products, you cannot deny that the Kardashians are facey. Kris does not look a day over 40 and it still blows my mind that Kourtney looks like she does after having three kids.
3. They have an unfathomable amount of money.
We envy their luxurious lifestyle. They live in ostentatious homes, drive top-notch cars, and vacation in the most beautiful and serene locations. It is rare that we get an inside glimpse on what it's like to live such a grand lifestyle, but thanks to the Kardashians and their reality shows, we get a front seat view. Whether we like to admit it or not, we could all use a little bit more money, and we envy those that don’t have to worry about how they're going to pay next month’s bills.
4. At times, their problems seem so trivial.
While they have endured some monumental precarious situations, at times, their problems seem so trivial that it is comical. Every time I see a Kim Kardashian crying meme I laugh; how could you not? Their petty drama is simply entertaining. I guess that is why they have a reality TV show.
I must admit that "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" is my guilty pleasure. Say what you will, but they never disappoint in the entertainment department. Thanks for giving me a way to procrastinate on homework, Kardashians, I am looking forward to next season.
