"You ain't never gon' be happy 'til you love yours"
Life is an open book. Every single human being on this plant, your mother, brother, sister, YOU, handcrafts their own book filled with personal, everyday choices. That’s the best part about it. Every day is something different and every chapter is full of ups and downs unique to the happenings in your life.
The early days of my freshman year of high school left me with the biggest question mark in my head that I then felt needed to be answered yesterday. Every day I thought about how I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Every day I found myself stuck, too worried that I might make the wrong choice or too afraid of what other people think and might do differently.
With four years of high school and one year of college under my belt, I have grown and matured in ways unimaginable. Five years after that haunting question popped into my head, I finally came up with an answer to temporarily satisfy the wonder.
The only answer at this point in my life, as a rising college sophomore, is that my life is the best life. For me. It always will be no matter what I do on what day. The choices I make are direct results of my mood and personality at that exact moment in time.
I don’t know about you, but I think that’s pretty cool. That’s 365 chances to wake up and choose the outcome of my day, my weeks, my life.
I’m not saying that every day is going to turn out as planned, but I am saying that it's real. No other person can have the same life you do because they simply aren’t you. Of course, others are going to do things differently, and maybe even judge you on your decisions but who cares.
After years of walking on egg shells trying to please everyone else, I finally understand what the phrase, “Live life to the fullest" means. I am proud that I am comfortable to make my own choices based on my own preferences in life rather than following the crowd. I am so thankful for the challenges I overcame to bring me to this realization. There is no better life then my life because my life will always be the best life for me. As the talented J Cole once said, “Love Yourz.”
