Why Ted Cruz’s Desire to Move the US Embassy in Israel is an Incredibly Dangerous Idea

Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Macro Rubio are back at it again meddling with Israeli-Palestinian relations. This time, they are joined by Republican Senator Dean Heller in their quest to dismantle a possible two-state solution. The three notorious supporters of the Jewish State introduced a new piece of legislation today dubbed the “Jerusalem Embassy and Recognition Act”. This piece of legislation not only calls for President-Elect Trump to move the US Embassy in Israel from where it stands today in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but also holds funding for security, construction, and the maintenance of other US Embassies around the world if President Elect Trump refuses to move to the embassy to Jerusalem. The Senators’ idea to move the embassy, while a terrible one, was not their original idea. The idea stems from a law Congress passed in 1995 to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but Presidents Clinton, W. Bush, and Obama have all refused to recognized the law on the basis of national security.

With the introduction of this new bill, accompanied with Trump’s repeated campaign promises to do so, come grave concerns for the future of a possibility of a two-state solution. By moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem, the United States would be creating a basis for the Israeli Government to formally move their capital from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a move that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be all too willing to do. The two-state solution that seems the most logistically possible is based upon the notion that Jerusalem will be the capital of the new Palestinian state. So not only does this newly introduced bill make the two-state solution much harder to implement, it could jeopardize two-state solution negotiations all together, for moving the embassy would greatly anger the Palestinians. The Palestinians would not be the only ones in ire, the vast majority of the surrounding Arab States including but not limited to: Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia would announce their strong opposition to such a drastic measure. The bill not only jeopardizes the future of a two-state solution but further points out the hypocrisy of Senator Ted Cruz. The Texas Senator was an adamant critic of Secretary Clinton’s decision not to provide more security for the US Embassy in Benghazi, Libya, but he is currently proposing to hold additional security to US Embassies throughout the world hostage if he does not get his way. I remember when I was kid I used to take my sister’s dolls and tell my mom I would not give them back unless I got whatever new toy I wanted. You know what my mom would do? She would give my sister back the dolls and chide me for such childish behavior, explaining to me you cannot take other people’s things and expect something in reward. I just wish Senator Cruz’s mother taught him the same lesson during his adolescence.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
