Why Take Away A Woman's Right To Choose?

Ohio has some explaining to do with this unfair abortion law.

First off, I want to start out by saying how appalling this is. If you have not seen about the Ohio abortion bill passed, it states that you cannot have an abortion after a heartbeat is detected. A heartbeat is detected around 6 weeks, a month and a half into a pregnancy. Most women don’t find out they’re pregnant until about 6-8 weeks, or their second missed period. This law basically takes away abortion completely since most women won’t have enough time, or any time, to make a decision after finding out they’re pregnant. That being said, the bill also does not make any exceptions for victims of rape or incest. The only exception is to save the life of the mother.

To all the pro-lifers out there who find this bill wonderful, do you realize how much this can effect victims of rape? No women of sexual assault should be forced to have the child she gets pregnant with. It wasn’t her fault. She should not be constantly reminded everyday about that one night. Just because you think the baby can grow up and do great things that can change the world, doesn’t mean you should/can force a rape victim to have the child. Rape typically causes PTSD or another mental disorder and it can be very serious. Most of you pro-lifers say that abortion should be illegal and all that bullshit because if you don’t want the child there is other options like adoption. Do you realize how hard it is to adopt? Do you know how much money it is to adopt and the fees? It isn’t free like you think it is. It isn’t easy either. Some people are DENIED adoption as well, even though they are fit to adopt. The process is also very long.

There are about 415,000 children already living in foster care waiting to be adopted. Why add more? And if you force the mother to have the child that she ends up not being able to provide for, are you going to take care of it? Are you going to give it a better life? I, like many others, have the moral of refusing to have a baby that I can’t give a better life to than what I had. I believe in that. But do you also realize that some pregnancies are accidents? Don’t give me that bullshit either that you shouldn’t be having sex if you know there’s a risk to get pregnant. It’s a bodily need. Did you know orgasms help with depression and stress because they release endorphins in the brain? There’s birth control, but nothing is 100% effective. There are accidents. Condoms break sometimes and you can end up pregnant. Nothing is 100% safe, but that shouldn’t stop a couple or someone from having sex with another person.

Also, did you ever think of the cost to raise a child on welfare from birth to 18 because a mother cannot afford to take care of the child? As of 2013, the cost of raising a child from birth to age 18 is $245,000 for a middle-class income family. Imagine how much it would cost the government to raise all these children that their parents can’t care for. Imagine how much the government is paying in food, clothing, and even doctor visits and dental care for these children. You don’t see the whole picture. You see it as a baby and that it should be born. Religion does not even play a part in this. Church and state are supposed to be separate, meaning that government and religion are not supposed to be combined.

I’m not insulting pro-lifers. I am pro-choice, but you need to see the whole, bigger picture to understand that it’s not just a baby, there’s other things and baggage that go along with having a child and taking care of the child. It’s not as simple as just having a baby. As someone who is pro-choice, I find this law, like many others, unconstitutional. You cannot take away a woman’s right to choose. You cannot take away a woman’s choice. Roe v. Wade was settled in 1973 and stated that the constitutional right to privacy extends to a woman’s right to make her own personal medical decisions. That being said, and being settled by the supreme court, how is this law able to even be passed? I don’t believe in it. I believe it is awful and forces women that cannot afford to take care of a child unneeded stress and anxiety. I wish men would stop making decisions for women and keep their nose out of our business. We’re women and each of us have rights over our body. But because of this bill, dead people even have more rights than a woman in Ohio. But men don’t care, right? They want what they want and don’t give a shit about a woman’s right to choose.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
