Its an odd feeling when you realize that a solid 90 percent of your friend group was made up only because you saw each other five times a week, and the only thing you all really had in common was you had Mr. Roth's fourth period AP lit class. Then you get this sinking feeling right after graduation, worrying about whether or not you'll make friends in college and if you'll ever have a group of friends like that again. I promise you will and it'll be even better.
It'll start out as you and another person connecting over something, whether it's the shitty retail job you both work at, or the awful English 131 class you have to take as a gen ed requirement. Before you know it, you'll be introducing each other to your friends and a core group will form over multiple shared interests. You'll have late nights, then early mornings, and even multiple group chats that get on your nerves, but damn it, you love those goofballs more than anything.
Eventually the squad will end up taking up family roles and it's seriously the best thing that will ever happen to you. When you find that special group of people you connect with, whether it's over DND, sports, or general nerdiness, you'll never want to let them go. These are the people that you'll want in your wedding, the people whose kids you want your kids growing up with, and the people you eventually want to get sent to the same retirement home as.
One of the best things that will happen in a squad is that when you're talking with someone outside of the group, like a family member or a co-worker, you'll notice you've picked up different habits from different members of the group. It may be subtle things like using certain colloquialisms, or doing a specific hand gesture with a certain phrase, while others might be more apparent, like you wear more of certain color because that's the color that squad has chosen, or after a girls' night conversation all you wear are leggings.
These goofballs will be your best friends (hopefully) forever, the people you can share random and weird videos with that your family would totally judge you for, but these goofs will just laugh their asses off. Even if you guys end up breaking up, you'll always have your college squad, and you can tell your future family all of the random and weird adventures you all went on, and seem like the coolest parent ever!
