In the days of Christopher Columbus, the pineapple was considered a symbol of hospitality and prosperity in a home. Today, it's known as a sweet tropical fruit that can be carved out to serve margs in, or a cute pattern on swimsuits. However many interesting stories there are about pineapples, there are so many awesome benefits and uses for it today.
1. Pineapples have a higher Vitamin C content than oranges.
Yep, that's right. Normally when we think of Vitamin C, we think of oranges and orange juice, but in fact, there are many fruits and vegetables which have much more Vitamin C than oranges do, including the pineapple. One full orange has 93% Vitamin C, while there is 105% Vitamin C in just one cup of pineapple. For all college students starting classes soon, keep some pineapple handy to help fight off those gross campus-wide colds.
2. Pineapples help with digestion.
Pineapples contain the chemical 'bromelain,' which can be found in the core and stem of the fruit. Laboratory results have shown that the bromelain in pineapples can aid in reducing bloat, indigestion, and inflammation.
3. The juice reduces acne scars and cleanses your skin.
As I said in No.2, pineapples have anti-inflammatory properties, and the Vitamin C in the juices are amazing for your skin. The anti-inflammatory properties reduce swelling of any acne you might have (or had), and the Vitamin C exfoliates your skin. Even the acid in the pineapple washes and cleanses your pores for softer skin. 4. Pineapples are used to make wine.
I know what everyone is thinking: "Wine is made with grapes, what's wrong with you?" Nevertheless, I truly believe that when I am legally old enough to drink responsibly, that I will love pineapple wine as well. If you're over 21 and willing to search through the wine isle, I'd say be adventurous and try some!
5. There's a super satisfying way to cut them.
There is a newer gadget called the pineapple corer. They are now so common that you can pick one up at your local grocery store, or order one on Amazon. Personally, I think it's the best way to cut a pineapple because it is so nice and neat, but without the mess.
Pineapples are amazing, and if you didn't think so before your read this article, you should definitely think so now. They have so many amazing properties and uses, and even while putting all of that aside, they're cool to look at as well!
