"Are you going to marry your Nikes?" That is when I realized it. Yes. Yes I am. Running is the ultimate bae, the perfect significant other that pushes your limits, challenges you, is a complete pain, but at the end of the day is always there for you. Every time I tie my shoelaces, I am actually saying, "I love you." Here are 11 signs that you are actually in a relationship with running:
1. You buy nice things for it.
"Buying these shoes instead of normal clothes that I actually need is a totally reasonable decision and actually what I came to the store to do."
2. You spend "too much time" with it.
"Sorry, I can't, I was going to go on a..."
"Run? Yes. A run. Of course you were."
3. It tests you emotionally.
The moment when you realize that you're not even a quarter of the way and you're going to have to run this amount five more times and...
4. But after you get over those moments, you come out feeling stronger than before.
"And tomorrow I am going to do it again!"
5. You feel like this when you go a day without it.
"I just don't really feel like myself today..."
6. And you react like this when people say, "Maybe you should take a break."
Yeah? Well, maybe you should take a break from your judgement.
7. You go to it when you're having a bad day...or a good one.
"Sorry I just need to run away all my feelings."
8. People try, but give up on understanding what you see in it.
"That's really great...running...that you run...yeah..."
9. People notice that you've been "dressing differently."
"Wow, you actually have normal clothes!"
10. When you use the treadmill / elliptical, you feel like you're cheating on your true love.
It's OK, let's just pretend it never happened.
11. It causes you pain, but you are in love with it.
See you tomorrow morning.
