Stonehill College serves as a home to many students. This college is small but mighty, especially when it comes to charitable causes such as Relay for Life. The college has a club on campus called the Relay for Life Planning Committee. The Relay for Life Planning Committee's main responsibilities includes putting on the event in April, fundraising for the event, recruiting team members, and spreading awareness of the American Cancer's Society mission. The Committee has raised over $16,000 this year alone and has recruited almost 50 teams. The Committee tells me their reasons for being a part of Relay for Life.
"I Relay for my mom who kicked Leukemia's butt and made it possible for me to have the life I do. I could never repay her for everything she has done and continues to do for me. Relay for me is more than an event; it's a way I can remember those who have lost their battles to cancer, and support those who are fighting and those who will fight. " - Brody Johnson
"I relay in honor of my mom who lost her battle to cancer 7 years ago. She was my best friend and I miss her every single day. I also relay for all those who are still fighting this terrible disease as well as their caregivers. I want to create a world with more birthdays!" - Michelle Hudak
"I relay for my family members who have lost their battles with cancer." - Connie Hodge
"I relay for all of my family and friends who have been affected by cancer in any way. I dream of a world with more birthdays and want to help make this happen. No one deserves to go through what cancer puts them through and especially, no one deserves to go through it alone. Relay for Life shows everyone that they are not alone; we all come together for the same cause and to be there for one another." - Karyn Cotter"I relay in honor of all of my family members that have fought cancer. Many of them beat the battle but my great aunt Joan did not. She was so full of life and I use that energy in working to put on this event to raise as much money as possible. I want there to one day be a day when no one has to hear that they themselves, their loved one, or their friend has this terrible disease." - Savannah Fields"I relay so one day people won't have to relay ." - Julie Fitzpatrick
"I relay for my aunt who lost her battle to cancer 8 years ago and for all my family and friends who have been affected by cancer ." - Melissa Zulon
"I relay for my mom who is a two-time cancer survivor and for everyone who has ever been affected by cancer." - Elizabeth Balzarini
"I Relay in memory of my aunt, who we lost to breast cancer in 2009, and all my other family members who are survivors. I hope that I can help the American Cancer Society end cancer so that no more families have to lose such special people like my aunt." - Meghan DeMacedo
"I relay in honor of my grandmother who lost her battle to breast cancer, but also for the survivors who have fought back and WON!" - Sarah Gaffney
"I Relay for the many people in my life that cancer has affected, no matter if they are survivors or were taken too soon. Our future should be filled with hope that starts with us today doing what we can to fight cancer." - Marissa Scott
"I relay for all of my family and friends who have been impacted by cancer in some sort of way. Because of American Cancer Society, these people are given the courage, hope, and determination they need to get through." - Emma-Cate Rapose
"I Relay because I have had family members including my grandparents and an aunt, family friends and a teacher who won or are still fighting their cancer battle. I want to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society to continue working towards fighting against this disease." - Madison Parenteau
"I relay for my mom who won her battle with breast cancer." - Kathrine Garron
"I Relay for my best friend, Anthony, who passed away in 2011 of
brain cancer and for all of my family members and friends who have been affected by cancer in some way. I feel as though participating in Relay and leading the committee at Stonehill is such a great way for me to remember those who have passed from cancer and support those who are living with it." - Caitlin Eleanor
"I relay for my aunt and my grandma who lost their battle to colon/lung cancer 6 years ago." - Alex Fink
"I relay for my great uncle who lost his battle with prostate cancer seven years ago." - Matt Mullen
"I relay for my mom who lost her battle to breast cancer 13 years ago." - Kaylee Reumann
