Platonic love is said to be the purest form of love. It is not clouded by the sexual desires of physical love. It does not have the need for intimacy and passion like romantic love. It is the love that you share between yourself and the people you care about. You can have platonic love and romantic love for the same person. They can go together and they should go together. It's okay if someone is both your best friend and significant other, but it's also just as okay if your significant other and your best friend are two different people. You can love and care for someone with all of your being and still not be in love with them. And this is perfectly fine. You can be in love with someone and not feel anything physically for them. There are so many different kinds of love, and we need to explore them all.
Every day, we experience different kinds of love without even realizing it. The way we love our favorite food is not the way we love our best friend, and that is not the way we love our mom, and that is not the way we love our favorite TV show, and so on and so forth. These are all different types of love that we experience on a day to day basis. If we have and experience all of this love, why is it so much easier for us to hate? Or, why is it so much easier for us to show and display this hate? I am not saying we can fix all the problems in this world with love and hugs, but I think that displaying our care for each other and fully embracing our love for the world can change a lot of things. A simple "I love you" to your best friend can make their day. Some people feel as if that phrase should only be used with one special person and that's fine, but I believe it's a phrase that should be said often to the people you care about. If you love them, why not tell them?
Embrace your feelings. Showing your emotions doesn't make you weak. Showing and exploring your emotions allows you to control them better, which makes you stronger and able to understand them more. Emotions shouldn't be bottled up and stored away—they end up exploding at some point or another, and that is never fun. It is best to let them out, because then you learn to control them. If you never let them out and only let them explode, you will never learn true control over your emotions.
Platonic love is important because it allows you to embrace these feelings and explore these emotions with the people that surround you. It becomes a way to show appreciation to your friends, family and so forth.
