In today’s world, everyone wants to be heard, to give their 2-cents. Why? Because it's easy!
That’s why every second, thousands of tweets and posts are out on the web, from people either wanting to send a message or get someone’s attention. It has become a virus, infecting everyone with an insatiable desire to be heard. However, many reporters and authors over time would say this is a good thing! No one is left in the dark, or forgotten about.
Everybody is somebody to someone else, and boy do those somebodies love to share their opinions. The outlet, however, is flawed and not taken seriously by most. But, neither are most hard copy newspapers, as the majority of people today would call them obsolete. Online newspapers, such as Odyssey, are just the right mix of convenience with credibility.
Odyssey has thousands of contributors delivering both facts and opinions, in a way that captures and keeps attention. They feed into the never-ending stream of knowledge people are always craving, and are available on a phone or computer, which practically everyone under the age of 90 has. And to those like myself, who want to be heard in a way that benefits people or at the very least, adds to their knowledge of the world, this is the perfect opportunity to do so. It isn’t just posting a picture of an expensive dinner, or fishing for attention through vague statements. It is , in all meaning of the word, a community experience.
Money isn’t a distraction, so our articles come from pure honesty and insightfulness. Odyssey gives us the chance to help people, help ourselves, and give back to our community of readers who log on daily to have quality reading material to start, finish, or get through their day. Another great benefit to being part of the Odyssey community, is applicable writing experience to anyone wanting to go into the field.
While my career choice isn’t to become a reporter, I do wish to one day share my ideas and beliefs in a platform that will last past my life. The experience I continue to gain at Odyssey is preparing me for that time in my life, and I am personally very grateful to them for that. Also, unlike being an independent blogger, we have the ability to bounce ideas off one another in our teams, growing and developing story ideas that the readers will eventually read. Nothing is more satisfying that having the most shares on your article at the end of the week. Not for money, not to satisfy a competitive nature, but for the satisfaction of knowing you have written something that meant something to others, and then wanted to share it to continue the wave. Odyssey is a fantastic organization, and I can only see growth in its future.
