Let me tell you something about New Years, it is a pointless holiday. Yes, I said it, it's pointless. If you really think about it, celebrating New Years is just celebration a new year. It is literally like celebrating a new day or a new hour. It is celebrating that we are still alive yet another year.
Now do not get me wrong, I do celebrate New Years, but at times I believe it is a bit pointless.
People all around the nation gather at the infamous New York City just to see the clock turn. My family does a tradition where we eat 12 grapes, each symbolizing a month and as we eat them we make a wish. Every year, after eating the grapes, I feel full and sick of grapes.
And then there is the crazy drinking. For those that are of age, New Years is a time where it's almost natural to be intoxicated. Do not forget about the New Years kiss and how the person you kiss will supposedly become your future spouse. There are just so many pointless yet somewhat comical traditions that New Years does hold.
Now the thing that really ticks me off when it comes to New Years is no other than New Year's resolutions. Why can't people decide to make a lifestyle change any other time of year, why does it have to be New Years? There are literally 365 days in a year, one can make a change any other day. One can start now, tomorrow, the next day, one can start whenever one wants. One does not have to wait until New Years to start eating healthy or exercising or being more productive.
Personally, I do not make New Year's resolutions because every day I make lists of what I want to accomplish and every day I try to be a better person. I do not like to wait for a specific day to make a change, I like making a change now not later.
Maybe, you really love New Years, and after reading this article your feelings are hurt. If that person is you then I truly apologize. I do not intend to start a petition to terminate New Years nor do I intend to not celebrate New Years. I simply wanted everyone to appreciate every day of the year and for people to not wait until a specific day to make a change but to make a change now.
