Coming from a girl who has never owned a pet, having a puppy has been a dream of mine for years (probably since age 5). Puppies can and will help you get through anything or so I have heard from a few sources. They play with you, cuddle with you, shower you with love, and make you smile like you've never smiled before. However, sometimes life gets the best of you and it becomes increasingly difficult to get approval from your parents. I’m here to help you out with that. Here are 5 completely rational and compelling reasons to go get a puppy right now:
P.S. Mom and Dad, if you're reading this, please take note.
1. Having a dog can help your heart.
Snuggling a puppy not only metaphorically warms your heart with its cuteness but it actually benefits your heart health in many ways. Harvard Medical School conducted a study showing that pet ownership is linked to a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease. This correlation makes sense because dog owners tend to walk and exercise more, lowering their blood pressure and therefore leading a healthier lifestyle overall.
2. Pet Therapy.
Having a pet can help relieve stress and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. An act as simple as petting a dog helps your body release the feel-good hormone oxytocin, which relaxes you and decreases stress. So, your companionship would not only make the puppy feel good but would also do wonders for your own mental health and mood.
3. Gives you a sense of belonging.
Any type of social rejection or isolation stings but your puppy will always be there to help you bounce back from it. Even when difficult situations arise, your puppy will be there to greet you with its wagging tail. There’s a reason these furry creatures are known to be man’s best friend (and woman’s too of course!).
4. Puppy for the rescue.
These intelligent furry pets can do more than simply fetch a ball or play around. Their acute sense of smell actually comes in handy in detecting life-threatening issues including seizures and even cancer.
