Why Moms Are Priceless

These women deserve more than just a day devoted to them.

Why Moms Are Priceless

With the recent passing of Mother's Day, I've reflected a lot on the value of a mother, and how important it is to celebrate moms every day.

Let me break down a couple digits for you.

Annual salary of...

  • Chauffeur Driver: $40,300
  • Personal Chef: $64,000
  • Therapist: $48,160
  • Personal Stylist: $64,500
  • Defense Attorney: $78,500
  • Teacher: $50,000
  • Cosmetologist: $22,000
  • Stay-at-Home Mom: $0

To my beautiful mother,

I know Mother's Day might not mean too much to you, but having to spend this Mother's Day 500 miles away from you for the first time in 19 years has shown me just how important it is to appreciate you.

Mom, thank you for teaching me to love myself. Thank you for constantly reminding me that approval of other people is trivial and unimportant. Thank you for helping me understand how important it is to stand up for yourself and call people out on the unfair things they do. Thank you for never letting me forget how to have fun, and cherish every second. Thank you for giving me your inherently awesome and fun loving genes. Thank you for loving me endlessly and unconditionally – even when I don't deserve it and when I'm hard to deal with.

Thank you for being my biggest cheerleader and supporting me in ways only a mom can. Thank you for defending me, even when I don't deserve it. Thank you for your incredible intuition that will never steer me wrong. Thank you for cheerfully answering several phone calls a day, always having something to say about the trivial happenings in my world. Thank you for cleaning up after my messes – the ones I leave around the house, and the ones I make in my life. You're an inspiration to me every day. You are who I can only pray to be. You're my favorite human. You're my best friend without trying to be, and no string of words I could combine would ever be able to describe just how thankful I am to have you as my momma.

Not a day goes by that I don't thank God for the fact that I was brought into this earth by someone as incredible as you. But today, especially, I'm thinking of how blessed I am to share the same DNA as you, and that I'm becoming more and more like you every second.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
