I am about to be a junior in college and just now experiencing what it is like to have your own room and bathroom. We have all experienced our freshman year living arrangements which, generally speaking, were less glamorous than we expected. After spending my sophomore year living in a sorority house with twenty-something girls, I have seen it all. So when I first moved into my apartment I was a little nervous. I didn't think I would be ready to handle excessive alone time after sharing a room for two years. How wrong I was.
I am not saying moving in was any more enjoyable than usual, but once officially settled there is, honestly, no comparison. I think I finally understand why me time truly is the best time. There are a few specifics you just can't beat.
1. You are on your own schedule.
Does it get better than that? Even if you have a million things to do in a day, you get to do them on your time. Your days no longer take planning around someone else's schedule and making sure you don't interrupt their plans.
2. You are never judged.
Want to watch Netflix all day and eat your feelings? Go for it. You don't have to worry about having that one friend around that only eats salad when you are trying to house that burger.
3. The only problems you need to think about are your own.
You definitely need some you time if the only problems you know about are other peoples' problems. When you are alone you don't have to pretend to care about the tragic fifteenth break up your friend is going through.
4. Everything stays how you left it.
This is good and bad depending on the type of person you are. But when you are having some you time, you can expect that nothing of yours is going to be messed with (i.e. your clothes will not be missing from your closet, or your room is as neat as you left it).
5. You get to be weird.

Honestly, I'm all about hanging out with other people. It is hard to beat a wine night with all of your girlfriends, but some alone time does pose a threat. Everyone needs to take a break from their crazy, hectic life and enjoy a little me time. I'm just here to tell you that's 100 percent okay, and sometimes even necessary.
