In the world of fashion, it's said to only be acceptable to wear white after Memorial Day and before Labor Day. The reason why people started to only wear white in the summer is because it was a lighter fabric and it made them cooler. At that time, there wasn't any air conditioning. Also, they didn't wear shorts and T-shirts, therefore their clothes were very hot. Although this history is very interesting, and at the time I think it was genius, there isn't a reason not to wear it during fall and winter. For example, I have a white coat for the winter and I love it, so why would I not wear it? Plus the designer designed it for winter, so fashion icons everywhere are changing the fashion world as we know it.
Now that we have air conditioning and we wear shorts and T-shirts, we can wear whatever color we want. So then, why do some people follow the rule? It has been proven that some people don't like change. They don't wear white during the cooler months because they don't like the idea of change. Another reason could be that they really are into fashion and just want to follow every rule that fashion has to offer. If you look back in some of the fashion week collections, most of them have white in at least one garment. Even major fashion icons like Michael Kors, Issac Mizarahi and Georgina Chapman wear white all year and put it in their garments.
You may think to yourself, well, I know a whole bunch of fashion stuff because I watch "Project Runway," and I think the same thing. In the 21st century, a lot has changed for the better and maybe getting rid of this rule that white can only be worn during a certain time will be for the better. During this time, you can wear white whenever you would like. I also think that the rule of only being able to wear one color during a specific amount of time is strange, and it doesn't make much sense. It's kind of like telling a bride she can't wear a white dress to her own wedding.
If you want to wear white, wear white. There isn't any one who can tell you what color you can and cannot wear. Be yourself, because as people say, everyone else is already taken.
