I'm sure you've seen the Facebook and Twitter posts... even memes that say things like "to the girl that still doesn't have a boyfriend, i'm sure you could find one if you gave one of the guys you friend-zoned a chance." Familiar right? Guys and people in relationships making the single females feel bad for holding out for what we want instead of settling for what's right in front of us.
I say it's okay. Friend-zone every guy you meet until you find the one that makes you feel not only secure, but excited to see or talk to him everyday. Why is it a bad thing to friend-zone guys anyway? Do people not realize that girls want guy friends....as just, you guessed it, friends?! They're like a protective brother that we have around that's not actually family. I have a ton of guy friends that people probably assume I have friend-zoned. But that's actually not the case. Many of my guy friends have girlfriends, and they sometimes even come to me for shopping for their girlfriend advice, or 'if they get in a fight with their girlfriend' advice. Thats what that "friend-zone" friendship is for. If we all only had friends of the same sex, I think we'd all go nuts.
Then, there are people that say "You and so-and-so are such good friends.. why don't you just date already?!" -Because. That guy is a great friend, why would I ruin it? I am 99% sure I would prefer our friendship over a relationship, so why would I try dating him.. and then find out that I 100% would prefer him as a best guy friend-- while also ruining the friendship? I don't think people think that far. Relationships are not easy. We don't just pick a person and decide "I am going to date this person and it's going to work." If that's how it worked, dating would be so much easier!
So, when girls hold out for that near-perfect man that we have in our heads, stop bashing us for "friend-zoning" guys that aren't exactly what we are looking for in the relationship department. They might be a nice and good guy, but there are plenty of those, and you don't see us dating them all just to find out what we already know.
