According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word "forgive" is "to stop feeling anger toward (someone who has done something wrong)." Seems like a pretty easy thing to do right? All you do is stop that anger and resentment that you feel against someone who has wronged you in a certain way.
Well, turns out it is not as easy as it sounds.
We all maybe have someone or even some people who have made us upset for some reason. How can I have the power and courage to forgive someone like that?
I once had someone I could not forgive. Why? Well, they would talk about me behind my back at school, and they would not stop it. I didn't really do anything, or not anything was bothering them in any way, to my knowledge. I would get so frustrated and hurt because they were saying all of these negative things about me that were not true. How could I forgive someone like that? Why would I forgive someone who is always doing everything in their power to make me upset?
Have you ever thought about how much we may upset God for all that we do?
We sin all of the time. We may say something that we shouldn't and do something that we shouldn't, but He still forgives us. He sent his son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, forgiving us of the wrong that we have done.
Now think about it: Did He have to do that? No way. He could've dropped us and called it that. However, He loves us so much, and wants to see us in Heaven with Him.
There are Bible verses after Bible verses about forgiveness. One of my favorites is Matthew 6:14-15, which says "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." It says it plain and simple: forgive others and God will forgive you, too.
Think about that next time whenever someone wrongs you in a way. God doesn't have to forgive you, but He does because of the love He has for you, and He can do that, you should be able to forgive those who wrong you, too.
