We all make mistakes in life, big or small. It's inevitable that these things occur along the way. It could be simply forgetting to do that assignment or even mistakenly dying your hair and it coming out a completely different color than you expected. Mistakes happen. It also can be considered a mistake when we choose a college that doesn't quite fit us.
Picking a university that is right for you has so many different components to it that we can get lost in our decision. You may have picked your school because of the distance, close or far, from home. You also could have chose the school based on grants or costs of the school itself. Don't forget about finding that program that excels in the area of your major. Choosing the right college has more to it then just falling in love the second you walk on to campus.
Even though there's more to it, that's how you should feel about the school you'll spend so much time at. You have to love the school because of everything it has to offer you and is everything that you feel comfortable with. This is your experience and you'll be the only person who will really be affected if it wasn't fit for you.
It's completely fine to start school and find out it's not for you. The New York Times reported that one in three college students will transfer at some point. That's a large number of unsatisfied students in their first college choice. Some individuals will be able to start a college and spend all their four years there, but for others, they'll walk on campus and feel as if it's not right. There is nothing wrong with making that decision that it's time to find a better fit for you.
Transferring can be a tough decision, though. It includes filling out applications you've already filled out, starting over in a new place and having to explain to people you have started somewhere new. Those are all time consuming and emotionally consuming aspects of the process. Transferring can cause uncertainties and unsettled feelings about the correct choice for you. You feel as if you've started to put your roots in one place even when it doesn't make you happy. It's not easy, but your happiness is the main priority and with that said, you can relocate no matter the circumstances.
It is OK to leave your current school and start over. Your current school will always have a place in your heart for the memories you made there, but it's time to do what makes you happy. You should be proud of your decision to leave and move on to the next stage in your college career because it is not an easy choice to make. Think about this way too: you get to spend time with different groups of people and live in different places due to transferring. That alone has given you so many amazing experiences.
Don't be afraid to do what's best for you and transfer to another college. There are so many other experiences and memories waiting for you.
