11 Reasons Why Every College Kid Can't Wait To Get Back To School

Because sometimes summer break feels too long.

Going to school in a month has got me thinking: there is so much I'm excited for. So much that is socially acceptable at college is not at home. It's the little things that I'm excited for in the upcoming month.

1. Amazon Prime Pantry, Instacart

These were made especially for lazy college students, I swear. They are lifesavers. Sometimes I don't feel like trekking to the store or taking an Uber there, so these are very convenient. Instacart lets me order groceries and I only have to wait a couple hours to get anything from milk to frozen food. At home, this would definitely be frowned upon.

2. Postmates/Ubereats

Lots of college perks involve food. Postmates and Ubereats probably get most of their business from hungry college students who want the easiest option. This is so much better than picking up food. Also, there are so many more delivery options in Miami (as opposed to only being able to order Italian or Chinese delivery at home).

3. Seeing friends

In college, it's a lot easier to see friends because they can be just a few steps away or a few miles away. Being home for the summer, it is definitely difficult to stay in touch if you can't afford traveling the country to see friends. In college, this it is definitely a lot easier. Friends at home have jobs and are busy, whether it's working or traveling. In college, unless your friend is abroad, it's easier to catch up with your friends. You don't need to really work around their schedule to make time as much as you do over the summer.

4. Napping

I've been home for nearly two months and have only taken one nap. This is so unlike my college-self. Napping in college is a must and 100% socially acceptable, even if the nap is in the middle of the day. I definitely can't wait to get those quick power naps in between classes again.

5. Finally learning again

It's been nice not having to worry about grades/ homework/ projects/ etc.. Plus I'm excited to learn more. Summer has been fun, but it hasn't been very productive. College will definitely teach me more about my future than being home for the summer ever will.

6. Student cards

It was so nice having one card for just about everything- room key, meal swipes, gym swipes. Being home I'm using cash a lot more (which can kind of be hard to keep track of).

7. Parties

Summer nights can be fun, but college nights are much more exciting. There's never a dull night. I can't wait for those late college nights filled with lots of dancing and jungle juice.

8. Freedom

There's freedom to do what you want when you want and during the summer it is certainly not like that. The freedom that comes with college is different than the freedom at home: no one is telling you what to do.

9. Walking distance from everything

Being home for the summer, you need to drive all the time if you want to go anywhere. On campus, I can walk just about everywhere on campus and even off-campus.

10. Late-night snacking

Because it's socially acceptable in college, but not accepted by your parents.

11. Tailgating season

At the University of Miami, tailgates are definitely something to look forward to. You definitely can't experience anything like that being back home for the summer.

Of course, I'll miss everything back home from the people to my cozy bed and my long showers, but college is right around the corner and I'm so happy to return to everything.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
