I don't understand why it's so difficult to just be loyal, honest and hardworking in today's society. There is so much shadiness and sneaking around happening all the time, and it's getting a little old. What kind of example are we as a society setting for the kids who look up to us?
We claim to be role models. We want to model the way and shape the path for those who look up to us, to teach them how to earn things by working for them. We want to teach them humility, honesty and pride. I think many of us get hooked on the "pride" part of this.
You get what you deserve. You earn what you work for. By being loyal and honest, we can achieve the good things we all hope and wish for. This is not the example that we, as a society, are setting for those who look up to us.
Children and teens these days expect to be handed what they want. Broke your iPad? Here's a new one! You want a dog, but don't want to take care of it? Sure, no problem! Participated on a soccer team, but your team came in dead last? Here's a trophy! What is this nonsense?! What are we doing to earn these things?
We have to stop. Seriously. Our laziness, sneakiness, disloyalty and dishonesty today will make for a frightening tomorrow. We currently do and will continue to live in a world where people undermine their friends for their own personal gain, do less to get more and receive things they did not earn. What kind of world is this?
And to think, at one point in time, America was thriving on the American Dream. The American Dream is founded on the values of working hard for what you want and achieving this through your efforts. This is not how this country seems to thrive today.
We need to get back to our roots and re-instill these values in ourselves for a better tomorrow. It's pathetic and selfish to lie, sneak around and be lazy. If everyone were just to work a little harder and be a little more upfront about their feelings, then maybe we would live in a happier, brighter and better society.
