I was given my dog as a gift in a past relationship. Her name is Effie, and she's a sweet little miniature longhaired dachshund that lights up my whole life. I absolutely love to take her anywhere and everywhere I go, and if she isn't allowed, then you can normally count me out.

Although having a dog in college is a lot of work, what with planning classes around pee-pee scheduling and making sure someone is around to watch her when I have to go on trips out of town for work or school, it's so worth it, and this is why.

1. You always have a snuggle buddy.

Always. Even when you don't want one. They're right up on you and there is nothing you can do about it except move over and give them even more space than they already have.

2. Having a dog automatically makes you like, two times more interesting.

Quote me on that. People hear that I have a dog and they want to know everything about her, where she came from, what she looks like, etc.; It just makes people wonder about your life. It's like having a dog automatically makes you this bomb person. You always have some weird dog story to tell about what Fido chewed up last week.

3. There's always something funny you can put on Snapchat.

If your dog is anything like mine then they're normally doing something camera-worthy. Today, Effie decided to throw herself head first into the bathtub and drink the bubbly water I was soaking in. I definitely put it on my Snapchat story. Shameless.

4.When you don't want to drink at parties, you can take your dog.

It's a perfect excuse. No one is going to blame you for being responsible and taking care of your baby over nursing a beer. You can both drink water together. I can't count the amount of times I've decided to be DD for my friends and also took Effie along for the ride. She loves it and she loves meeting new people!

5. Speaking of new people...you always have a second opinion on whether or not someone is trustworthy...

My dog can always tell if someone is worth hanging out with or not. Because she loves everyone she meets, I know that if she isn't crazy about someone, she can sense something isn't right. Call me crazy. I don't care. I trust my dog's instincts more than my own.

6. Dogs are always happy to see you.

This can cheer me up after finals or after a long double at work. Effie is always so happy that I'm home, she bounds all over the apartment and races at top speed to greet me. There is nothing that compares to a happy little face lick from your favorite furry pal.

7. Having a dog to take care of can get you out of some social interactions.

Can't tell you how many times I've been invited to a study session and I've said "Nah, can't. I gotta go walk my dog." She has a small bladder, alright?

8. They'll probably be there with you for all four years...and then some.

When everything is all said and done, when the caps have been thrown in the air and the champagne bottles have been popped on the Quad, who needs miss their college roommate?! You have a dog for crying out loud. That's plenty of company, if you ask me.

9. They're just so darn cute.

I mean. Come on. Look at him.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
