Why Going Home for Break Should be Something We Look Forward to

Home cooked meals, old friends, and our pets, honestly what is better than that?

Why Going Home for Break Should be Something We Look Forward to

A lot of us dread going home and leaving our college town and best friends (including myself), however I don't think we're looking at the big picture here. There are several reasons why we all need a break from our home away from home.

  • Home is where the pets are.

Let's be honest with ourselves. Half the time we miss our pets more than our actual family. As horrible as that sounds, we can have a phone conversation for hours with our family members and they can even come visit. Our pets however? Not so much. Besides, when we come home our pets definitely show the most excitement to see us than anyone else in the house and somehow that excitement never goes away.

  • Missing old friends.

As much as we hate to admit it, we miss our old friends like crazy. Although you are having an incredibly amazing experience with your new friends in college, you need a dose of old friends back in your life. Talking about each other's stories and comparing experiences along with reminiscing on your own memories with each other is always fun and brings back good times from high school.

  • You save loads of cash.

With you being home, this means mom and dad are covering your expenses, rent, food, sometimes even shopping money. This is huge because you get to save up for the upcoming semester and be able to live comfortably over the summer and not have to suffer through microwavables and fast food places. Rather than that, you have home cooked meals and restaurant dates with your parents and that's pretty amazing compared to the diet of a broke college student.

  • Taking a break.

We all love our college town but sometimes we need a break, whether it's to get away because you're growing tired of it, or to go elsewhere so that you can appreciate it more upon return; we all need a break. Also, for some people, being away from college serves as a good method of detox.

  • Being with family.

Despite having formed a new family at college, your true family misses you and beneath it all, you miss them too. It is nice to come home to open arms that are excited to spoil you and are excited you're home, even if it is for a short amount of time. Siblings (as much as they hate to admit it) miss you too and it's nice to have you home.

Whether it is for a weekend or a few months, don't dread going home because there are a lot of perks for you and for others.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
