The main purpose of putting children in sports is to build confidence, keep them active and healthy, build character and form a strong foundation of skills to use for the rest of their lives. Girls have not had the chance to exhibit their athleticism for as long as boys due to many generations of strong gender roles and stereotypes. Sports were meant for men, and girls entering a sport made them manly. Over generations, it has finally become a norm for girls to become strong and be athletic. I mean, who wouldn't want their daughters to build their confidence, stay active, and have a strong character, right? With all this kept in mind, there's one sport that is finally making its outbreak that all parents should consider for their daughters. Wrestling.

1. Builds Character

Wrestling builds a foundation for kids to become responsible for their actions. While most sports have certain disciplines, wrestling seems to be one of the most consistent in holding kids responsible for their actions. It requires you to show up on time, pay attention during technique days, drill moves, be a good partner for your teammates, work hard and handle wins as well as losses responsibly. These qualities transfer over to everyday life and are qualities that women should attain just as much if not more than men. Having your daughters grow up in wrestling will teach them to walk with a confidence that is admirable.

2. Active & Healthy

Putting your girls in wrestling will set them up for a healthy lifestyle that will follow them as they grow older. The sport requires health eating and a hard work ethic in the wrestling room. It will prevent higher chances of childhood obesity and other health issues.

3. Self Defense & Protection

Wrestling will allow our girls to have a self defense foundation. Between the different take downs, throws, locks and holds that are taught, girls will be able to confidently defend themselves if need be. While wrestling is not a martial art, it has been a consistent back ground for a lot of top MMA fighters. Girls should not have to feel like they need to be fragile, prissy, or too girly to stick up for themselves. Girls wrestling will allow them to feel strong and prepared if they should ever find themselves in a dangerous situation.

4. Comaradery

Wrestling requires close contact and many hours spent training together. Teammates have to get used to being close and comfortable with each other. Allowing girls to wrestle will set them up with an immediate friend group with girls who think and train alike. Surrounding our girls with peers that have the same interest and character will only have positive benefits.

5. Success in All Things

In order to be successful in wrestling you must work hard, be determined, responsible, focus, overcome adversity and take on new challenges. These principles are also what it takes to be successful in life. Giving girls these traits will allow them to feel invincible and higher their desire to pursue success in life. As years go on, more cracks are being made in the glass ceiling that's oppressing women. Women's wrestling is another avenue to poking a hole through that ceiling.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
