Why does it matter that we are different? The definition of human is not defined as the single characteristic of a type of person but rather the collective characteristics that make us whole. Our arms, our legs, our beating hearts, and then some. That is what defines us as human beings.

Why does it matter that we are different? There does not need to be a color chart to determine if we match the stereotypical norm because the norm is stupid. We are different because our race and our ethnicity are different. No two people are exactly alike, rather we are like snowflakes similar in our own way, but unique all the same.

Why does it matter that we are different? For those who have dietary needs, they did not necessarily choose to be that way. How come they have to have their meals cost double the amount of another? Yes, the cost to buy the food is more, but does it have to be?

Why does it matter that we are different? Whether we like females, males, don’t belong as the sex we were born, or do not feel the need to have sexual relationships does not mean we are broken. This is our choice or how we were born and that should not be discriminated against. We have made progress in society, but the lines are still a blur.

Why does it matter that we are different? If we choose to become a business woman instead of raise a family does that mean our uterus are broken? We still have the sexual desires, the thought of having our eggs fertilized by a sperm however sickens us. Is it not appropriate to want to fill our motherly instinct with other needs such as caring for other children or volunteering our time to help others?

Why does it matter that we are different? If he wants to be a stay at home dad does that make him unmanly? He is a good man and cares for his children deeply, that should not determine his status in society.

Why does it matter that we are different? That a college education was not our first option. We could not afford it or it was not what we wanted to do. Does this mean we are any less smart than those who do attend?

Why does it matter that we are different? Does our social class determine our worth? Daddy can buy us ponies which makes us better than the person who has to work 60 hours a week to make a healthy living. Wrong! Privilege do not make us better it just makes us privileged. Lack of money does not make us poor it just simply means that we lack money. Life is about so much more than that.

Why does it matter that we are different? I like cats, you like dogs. We can no longer be friends. Why? Our preferences in animals does not mean that we care more or less for one animal over the other, we love and care for them all the same. Those animals who are endangered or extinct unfortunately we did not care for enough.

Why does it matter that we are different? Democratic or Conservative? Choose correcting or you may lose a friend. Arguments become heated before we look at the facts. Publicity skews our perspective which undoubtable changes our opinions. Can’t we all just get along?

Why does it matter that we are different? We are all unique and that determines how we fit in society. We are beautiful how we are and that does not make it wrong or disapproving but rather we are human.

Why does it matter to YOU that we are different?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
