Have you ever gone through your day and felt like nothing went right? Like the entire world was against you and all you could think about was what could go wrong next? If you have lived life for any period of time (especially as a college student), I feel like you can relate with that sentiment. I know I can.
So this week I moved back to college. I went through the entire process of packing up my car, driving to school, unpacking my room, and going to various meetings concerning the organizations I am in and my position as an orientation leader. The day before I left everything was set to go off without a hitch. My Mom and I had a plan on how we were going to get everything to Methodist and everything unpacked an done before I started all of my meetings. Unfortunately, the night before we left my Moms fuel pump went out on her car… so that left us with one car to get all my stuff to Methodist (and if you know me, I over back terribly). Luckily we were able to borrow a family members car to get us here. Then when I got to my apartment I realized we had no storage space and was in a tiny room because we were in the handicap apartment, not to mention we had to put in 7 work orders (many of which are yet to be taken care of might I add). Then there were numerous other unfortunate events that made me feel like the entire world was completely against me. At one point I broke down crying because I was so overwhelmed by everything that was going on, but then I realized I had two choices: I could throw myself pity party and be miserable or I could buck up and make the best of the situation. So, I chose joy.
Why choose joy? Well, my simple answer is, it could always be worse. You could be having what you consider to be the crappiest life ever, but it can always be worse. Another reason to constantly choose joy is because we have an amazing heavenly father who sent his son to die for our sins. Why choose to wallow in self pity when Jesus died in awful ways and overcame death just for us.. When you think about it, our lives are pretty great, no matter how crappy they are. We have a heavenly father who loves us, a savior who died for our sins, and no matter how bad our situation is, we could always have it worse. So next time you misplace your keys or get a big dent in your car, try to focus on your blessings instead of what you think is going wrong.
