Why Change Is A Beautiful Aspect Of Life

Change is a way of life that is ultimately inevitable. We change while we are in the womb, we change once we are born, we change as we grow, we are always changing. It is not until we look back on time that we realize what it is exactly that has changed. If you are like me, the idea of change makes you cringe and possibly cry. We spend plentiful amounts of time doing the same thing every day that when change occurs, we are blindsided. But the truth is, change is amazing.

Looking back now, I never realized how much change bothered me, until I started reminiscing about my childhood. Those were the days! No worries and care free. As I continued to remember the good times and how easy it was to be a kid, I began to resent the fact that I had grown up and was no longer living with my parents in my childhood home. Then I was confused. Why did I have to leave home and encounter so many trials and situations that would challenge me as an individual? I was so hung up on the fact that I had changed that I didn’t see what was currently changing in my life because of it. I started to become depressed and miss home more than usual. I wanted to go back in time and be mommy and daddy’s little girl. But, soon after, reality hit and I knew that was never going to happen. Never again was I going to live at home or even in my hometown for that matter. But once again, life is about changing. The beauty is in the fact that I had progressed in many areas of life, I was in college living the life that I had always imagined. The sooner I accepted it, the sooner I started to live again.

The beautiful part about change is that you can make it the experience you desire. You can change who you are to become the person you aspire to be. If you don’t like something about yourself, change it. It is all up to you.

Now, there are areas in our life that we do not choose to change. For example, you may have your heart broken by the person you believed you would marry one day, you may find out a piece of information that changes your entire view on a particular situation, or you may even become ill and have to change your way of life. But, there is beauty in change that we do not foresee in ourselves. I know everyone hates to hear that “everything happens for a reason”, but it is our reality. One thing leads to another and then bam, change. In order for a person to become who they are meant to be, change is involved because nobody stays at square one. Change is our way of growing, evolving our characters, and learning the capabilities that we hold within ourselves.

So you see, change is actually an amazing part of life, a way of life. Imagine if change didn’t exist, I definitely wouldn’t be writing this article seeing as to how I am a female. My proposal to you is to embrace change with every fiber of your being and enjoy life, because whether or not you take my advice, change will happen. Why not hop on the bandwagon now?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
