Why Cats Are Great

And why you should live with one

At the risk of sounding like a crazy cat lady (which I’ve been called more than once), I think everyone should live with a cat at some point in their lives. Currently I live with two cats and my boyfriend (note I’m not just saying I own the cats or I have cats; I consider them roommates and a part of the family). There are so many reasons to get a cat, like;

They’re so pretty

They’re fluffy, cute and adorable. They love to be pet literally all the time. And even better, they keep themselves pretty. So you don’t even have to bathe them or take them to the groomers, like you do with a dog. They’re also a lot smaller than dogs, so you can keep them much easier in a smaller apartment or condo without them feeling trapped like a big dog might.

Cats love to cuddle

It’s totally a common misconception (most of the time) that cats are rude and standoffish. My cats love to curl up at the foot of my bed at night. They really can be friendly.

They’re so easily entertained

No need to spend tons of money on fancy cat toys (Although I’m gonna be honest I can’t go into Petco without getting them a new toy). But cats will spend hours and hours playing with even the simplest thing, like a piece of string, or even their own tail. My cats current favorite past-time is knocking all of my bobby pins onto the bathroom floor and then scattering them all over.

They are so easy to take care of

Put out some food and water and clean the litter box and that’s literally it. Cats clean themselves and don’t need to be taken outside to pee. Unlike a dog, you can leave a cat home alone all day if you need to and you don’t have to worry that they’re going to tear apart all the furniture or go to the bathroom all over the house.

Cats are so loving

Despite what people think, cats usually super love creatures. They can look you right in the eyes and they know if you’re having a bad day. Whenever I get a cold, my cats don’t leave my side the entire time I’m sick. And anytime I start to cry (even if it’s just from a sad movie), my cats always rush over to me and will sit on my lap until I feel better. Some people just think of cats as a pet, but cats are really like good friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
